Altea

Think of how you imagine a typical Spanish Mediterranean fishing village; whitewashed buildings along winding, cobble stoned streets decorated with flowering bushes with a clear blue sky overhead and palm trees lining a pristine white sand beach and you can see Altea. It is one of the most well conserved villages in the Costa Blanca and is popular with artists for that reason.

Craftsmen, potters and artists display their wares in the various shops, galleries and boutiques around the old town and the night crafts markets in the summer months provide a great opportunity to snap up a handcrafted memento of your stay that you will cherish for years.

Although it has great charm and a historical past, modern amenities are far from lacking. The Greenwich Marina and Nautical club between them have nearly 1000 quays available for yachts and the variety of water sports available will more than satisfy the desires of any discerning enthusiast.

The church “La Mare de Déu del Consol” is popular with many visitors due to its characteristic blue tiled domes and the historical 16th century Bernia Fort is also an interesting place to visit.

The variety of restaurants will keep anyone with a taste for good food from becoming bored and the popular Tuesday market along the seafront is popular with both residents and tourists.
