Denia’s twenty kilometres of coastline is a regular recipient of Europe’s Blue Flag award for water quality, services and infrastructure making it a very popular tourist destination. The white sand beaches of Les Marines and Les Bovetes are of particular repute. The many coves along this coastline appeal to scuba divers and fisherman and water sports enthusiasts will find a wide range of activities to keep them happy.
Just outside the town of Denia is the 5 star La Sella Golf Resort and Spa offers golfer’s facilities second to none with a golf course designed by Jose Maria Olazabal for players of different abilities in a protected area of natural beauty. With its luxurious amenities and service you may find it difficult to tear yourself away long enough to explore the town itself.
Occupied at various times throughout history by the Moors, Greeks, Romans and French, the different influences are visible in the varied styles of architecture that can be seen when walking around the town. Like many other towns in the Costa Blanca it is a very pleasant place to wander around, stopping for a drink or some tapas here and there. The local cakes and patisseries are certainly worth trying too.
For those who like to practise sports on holiday there is plenty to do; hiking, tennis, sailing, biking, riding, fishing, potholing, windsurfing and karting. History enthusiasts will enjoy investigating Denia Castle built in the 11th century and its museum together with the various churches, caves and hermitages in the town and surrounding area.
The popular festival “Bous a la Mar”, bulls running through the town then being chased into the sea, and the traditional Moors and Christians pageants attract many visitors during the hot summer months. Tourism is on the rise in Denia which is understandable given the wide variety of things to see and do and the relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere that pervades the town.
