The Town’s symbol is the Pine Tree which is in the Church Square. Although nowadays tourism is the main industry the town’s original income was derived from fruit and almonds. This agricultural history is reflected in the local gastronomy available from the many restaurants in the town.
L’Alafas del Pi holds many traditional fiestas and a few original ones. It hosts an International Jazz festival which draws crowds from around the world. Nearby at the “Castell Conde de Alfaz” is the Medieval Challenge, a great family night out watching medieval jousting and sword fighting with a medieval style meal included. There are also various classical and popular music concerts staged at the town throughout the year.
The town has several historical places of note including the Roman Bridge that crosses the river and near the Albur beach there are some Roman ruins. Various paths and trails exist around the outskirts of the town across the Sierra Helada which are worth exploring either on foot or by bicycle. Planning restrictions have helped conserve the town’s character and charm whilst allowing it to provide the best in modern amenities.
The town boasts excellent athletics facilities together with a gymnasium and swimming pool. The Albir golf course nearby is a popular destination, beautifully cared for natural grasslands with trees and shrubs and many thoughtful touches such as benches for onlookers. Freely accessible to the public and close to the town, beaches and hotels it is also a place where cricket and football are often played.
